As an evaporative cooler, it works best when humidity is lower than 60%. When the water is low, the cooler is less cool, so i tend to start it with two half-gallon every few hours before it gets too low.

I live in a place with dry heat but no a/c and this makes most days tolerable. It’s not like a ac that is really cold but keeps the room comfortable.
Cons
This cooler is essentially just a humidifier. With that it mostly just releases moisture into the air. Had zero cooling effect.
We're stuck with a pretty expensive hunk of junk. One positive is that it is easy to setup.
It is possible the one i recieved was defective. The motor is extremely weak and due to that it doesn't force much air to move. I have a vornado circulating fan that does a better job than this.

Clean pads keep the air temperature cooler because more water can be absorbed into the pads and it's evaporation of water that cools air.
My most important tip is to adjust the louvers so that the cool air is directed straight at you, and you feel a nice cold breeze.

Note as opposed to an air conditioner, an evaporative cooler causes only a small change to the power bill, $5 at most.

The rear cover was easy to remove and pump about 35

There was scale on parts exposed to water but thats normal for all evaporative air coolers so dont blame the cooler
