Pros & Cons
Pros
It turns out that this was very easy to install and get working. Installed myself with some basic skills and tools in about an hour. Only fault is with the wiring and terminals. Nothing major, but concerning at the time.
It is designed to install in duct work, it has terminals for the ac fan, etc. The control panel has a terminal where you insert the wire and then screw down on a screw to seat the wire in the block.
Cons
The filter inside continues to disintegrate and clog the system. Buyer beware on amazon.
Highlights
Quality
The unit feels well made and i was impressed.
Replace a old sears unite, like the outdoor sensor ,no need to make continuous adjustments to humidity
Note 1: i have my own well water so my pads clog relatively quickly since there is no chlorine to inhibit growth.
The disadvantage of this is that it is only using 70-degree return air [we have our house thermostats set at 70] to blow on the wetted pad.
Price
I purchased 20 feet of two wire 18 gauge thermostat wire for $0.
Note that i have a well water system so the cost of water is very low.
Just be mindful of the total price = price of the product + comparable price of installation.
Packaging/appearance
The package did not contain any thermostat wire.
Competitiveness
The inlet valve cycles on and off at about 50% duty cycle which honeywell claims will cut water usage by 50% versus similar com... Read More
The honeywell uses a ducted squirrel fan (very quiet), the aprilaire uses a standard blade fan.
Like eyeontheprize points out, a heat pump provides a lower supply duct [plenum] temperature.
