Pros

The photos are stunning and the instructions are very clear along with the 'why' of what you are doing. Each recipe contains a page with background and info on how they tested the recipe - all useful and interesting. There is also the typical atk why ...  Read More

It starts with tips on making better drinks, followed by information on different types of liquor and barware. Also the intro gives you suggestions on barware, tools and glassware.

The hardback cover makes it durable. Goes from beginner to more intermediate skill level. If you want to develop some versatility and know-how, it's a pretty good go-to.

The recipes range from old standbys like the gin and tonic and the manhattan to more unique drinks like the teatini and the kiwi blossom. This book tells you how to make essential condiments such as simple syrup and vermouth from scratch.

High on my list of recommendations mai tais, whiskey sours, sangrias and margaritas. Nice to see a few options using tequila and mezcal. Almost all of them feel very attainable.

Cons

Doesn't even have the recipe for a single margarita. Takes simple formulas & unnecessarily complicating them with more ingredients. Might be useful if you are a bartender at a mexican restaurant, but i'm not.

One thing that is odd to me is that while it is nice they have a section on making batch drinks for large quantities some of the cocktails included in that section don’t have individual breakdowns if you just want to make one or fewer than a dozen including bloody marys and margaritas both of which could have interesting variations included
