It is waterproof throws out a lot of area light doesnt weigh much or take a lot of space in my pack

The wire hook you use to hang it up on stuff is weaker and more likely to break and it also has a gap at the very end that could let water in so it is less water resistant

I would say that if you want something that will hold up better to rough service like extended backpacking i would spring for the original it is pretty clearly better made

On the other hand if you want this for the occasional power outage or tailgate party id go with this cheaper one
