Hdmi can carry sound and as the monitor doesnt hav speakers you think youve lost audio

However to keep the original source speakers working we simply set them as the default and not the hdmi output in the laptops sound settings

The built in display settings accessed via the monitors control buttons do also allow you to vary the display but as said before we found the standard display to be more than adequate
