If you have any style of fan other than an older original hunter fan than this controller will work for you as a hard wired controller

I tried a lutron variable fan speed control and it caused the fan to hum annoyingly loudly

One problem i found was that the ground wire attachment is on the back of and protruded from the units bottom flange by 18 or so due to incomplete compression of the attachment grommet on 2 of the 3 that i purchased

If using old work boxes this placement will interfere with the box wall causing the control to protrude unacceptably

When you wire it the blackwhite striped lead from the hunter fan is the lights
