The cover is made of an opaque plastic and feels good not brittle at all

The package comes with halfcircle plates that you can install on either side of the fixture top to make for a clean install if mounting directly to a surface with a circular hole even tho the instructions dont make any mention of the plates but its not hard to figure out as seen in pictures

It also wont explode into millions of tiny pieces of glass if you knock into it with a ladder or tool unlike florescent bulbs in similar fixtures
