Competitiveness
Like a lot of beginners, i bought a super cheap no-name mandolin in order to teach myself how to play.
After much research i chose a great mid-range a-body mandolin from a trusted manufacturer, and ibanez m - series.

The volume and tone controls are effective through their ranges although the output volume is not as high as i expected

At this time the only detractor is the tuners

Overall it took some setup time about an hour to get it tuned due to the tuners and string stretch and to correct the intonation due to initial placement and having to minutely move the bridge back and forth to get the best compromise once placement was corrected

The harmonic should match the frequency of the note you get when you play at the 12th fret

A stiff guitar pick can come close if you play with one of the rounded corners and not the point

But that would be necessary with pretty much any mandolin its not standard for them to have that
