Pros & Cons
Pros
The squire mustangs are probably the best buy in a guitar right now. It has the potential to be an awesome beginner's electric, but it did require a little work to set up on arrival.
The neck is one piece of maple with a maple fretboard, which is not something you see on cheap guitars. The frets edges are smooth and the fit and finish are excellent; what you'd expect from a guitar costing about $100 more. The stock pickup sounds p... Read More
The small body is lightweight and easy to hold. Instead of wrestling with a larger 25. He should be pumped come christmas morning.
Everything has been qc inspected by ibanez. Switching options include the ability to switch to single coil. The combinations you can pick are neck humbucker, neck single coil, neck & bridge humb tucker.
This seller is awesome. Very cool. Happy with the purchase.
Highlights
Quality
It is very nice looking and the quality seems really good.
To begin with, the material quality is excellent for the money:- knobs and switches work smoothly- tuning keys work well and ... Read More
I was disappointed with the finish on the neck.
Fam, just look at the product next time.
Price
At this price, i expect to be playing the guitar, not collecting it anyway.
* the stock hardtail bridge works fine.
I did have to do a set-up and intonation adjustment on it but that is expected when set-up is not included in the price.
Shipping
First let me say a big thank you to the seller geartree for super fast and free shipping.
This means somebody took the time to set it up, and tuned it, and while shipping it lost half a step.
Waiting for my second one to ship!
Packaging/appearance
While this guitar is labeled as an axe for a beginner, it isn't ready to play right out of the box.
Competitiveness
Okay, i gave the ibanez mikro a 4-star rating because it's a pretty good value.
So it may not be worth the trouble to replace it unless you plan on using 12ga + replacement strings.
You could use 12ga replacements but the nut slots will have to be filed.

The guitar we received had fret sprout where the metal frets hang over the wooden fretboard

This can happen to any guitar because the wood can shrink due to climate so you may not have this problem
