Good for beginners but honestly any four string bass is, it just depends on how much you wanna spend and this was a reasonable price.
Sisters room is a pro player in band , says its awesome for price.
Don't let the low price fool you.

Be prepared to have it setup; shipping can be brutal on an instrument.

You will want to have it set up, which is true for any guitar out of the box really.
Competitiveness
Do yourself a favor and string up some flatwounds on this beast.
I think a guitar at this same price point would not be as good, but just an opinion.

I repaired it myself but will contact ibanez for a replacement key
