Its possible to draw off the shell then as you remove the device

It does not lock so you have to release the spring whilst holding it onto the egg with your other hand

In fact it was only by reading other reviews that we realised we should be pulling the top ball and dropping it to get the cut in the egg rather than just tapping it the photos on the box didn’t help us that much
