It works great between my macbook pro, and my recording microphone!

Connected this way disables the internal mic and gives you direct line input recording.

The iphone mic still activates and ignores this adapter.

But you have to plug it into the start of the cable chain (nearest to iphone, into lightning adapter) and not the end of the chain.
