Idle and gaming temps are super good with a noctua nh d15 and proper airflow. It runs perfectly cool on the stock intel cooler. The idle temp is at about 38c.
Despite its high heat output and premium price, its sheer performance and capabilities justify these trade-offs. Bought mainly for gaming so as mentioned, more options are available now for productivity. The best price/performance cpu on the market.

Cons
Bought i7 8700k recieved i3 4170. This cpu is very slow compared to amd. Lots of blue screen, and lagging is video play back. My computer just keeps shutting down.

Arrived fast and no issues with the purchase process.
I have experience with the ryzen 7 3700x in another system that i have, but by far i would rather team blue.
Overall i'm happy with it but i feel like i overpaid for it.

Works amazing and is amazing for the price i bought it!
Box slightly damaged but nothing on cpugood price
Double the price you only get 8% faster results (i9-9900k).

Not using the video part of this chip so is about as fast as i can get.

Amazing packaging (as you already know) with the hexagon shape being is of my favourite packages.
Competitiveness
Bought this for a mid range pc build with a z390 mobo.

It runs hot i have a 120$ evga 2fan liquid cooler and it barely keeps up with it.
I replaced it with a thicker, denser, noctua paste instead.

It is a rather hot cpu and it needs something around the level of an nhd15 to handle the overclocked temps stock temps with an nhd15 were great

It works great and all the only thing is it will never reach 5ghz so i feel like thats false advertisement overclocking tools and bios allow you to set it to x50 and overvolt but it will never reach it
