It provides 2 sata ports that i was using not in their raid mode but in plainvanilla ahci mode as support for 2 of the disks in the 4activedisk software raid

After the calamitous crash the bios could no longer see any disks connected to either of the 2 gray sockets

The machine then rebooted at last and it mostly restored the raid to a clean state less than an hour before dying again

The second death was different now it couldnt stay up long enough to boot
