Both the 2nd and 3rd edition claim that photons are outside the scope of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics. This textbook is broken. Probably it is because the teachers who select this book find it familiar, it reminds them of equally dull books.

The increase in text and amplification of some misconceptions in the 3rd edition makes it unusable. In the third edition, the confusion is amplified compared to the 2nd regarding operators that are simultaneously diagonizable.
