Pros & Cons
Pros
Ion software for all aspects of capture is easy to use. I have two audio processing programs with which i am very familiar and comfortable operating.
This player has cleaner sound (less background hum/hiss, and crisper voices) the build is a little clunky, but really just fine. Is it super high end noiseless perfection?
The unit is a bit flimsy, but it was inexpensive -- about $110 --- and new. Came packaged well.
Cons
A is playback only and b is playback and record. Sound quality is abysmal. When playing, it slows down and becomes distorted. As i write this i literally hear the b-side deck now slowing down.
New unit out of the box eats tapes on the b drive, turns itself off, will not run at all. When you press the eject button (which is manual), * are tough and it opens very slow. It looks like some cheap company (probably the same that makes the ion or ... Read More
Buyer beware - yes, it works, and yes, you get what you pay for. None of the features work as advertised. I am not interested in spending another 5 to 10 stinking hours trying to figure out how to make it work.
Highlights
Quality
The sound quality is great, i haven’t needed tech support yet.
For the spoken word the quality is excellent - clear, crisp.
Cassettes got a bad rap back in the day due to the crap machines people would play them in along with people, generally, not un... Read More
The recordings are saved as uncompressed wav files, and there doesn't seem to be any option to change the file format.

It probably deserves 5 stars considering the price.
But a local shop had what i needed for $5 and now it works.
Shipping
I sent multiple emails to ion support with no response to date.
Packaging/appearance
The copying software that came on the cd in the box doesn't work with windows 10.
Competitiveness
You can use other recording software, such as audacity, if you want more control, at the cost of more complexity.
So far, i have not found a way to turn down the volume output when i am playing back tapes to record, but that may be the opera... Read More

I havent tried recording to a cassette tape but for recording to the computer the record level control doesnt seem to do anything
Posted by a reviewer on Amazon
Since different tapes seem to output different levels this really needs to be adjusted for each tape you record and it would be much more convenient to have the gain control on the front panel

I saw some reviews complain of poor sound on the recordings
Posted by a reviewer on Amazon
That is likely due to not setting the gain properly
Posted by a reviewer on Amazon
If the gain is set too high the recorded sound will be very distorted if its too low the sound will be muffled
