Pros & Cons
Pros
Bass is tight and punchy. Good articulation and a sense of body to acoustic instruments. Bass is a little slow, i have heard quicker, tighter bass but i am not that worked up over it because these have good punchy bass.
Detail is amazing. The imaging is fantastic.
The 580s soundstage is out of this world compared to anything else. The studio 190 are a great speaker and big bang for the buck. The bass on the 250ti is more present but the 590's are more defined in the midrange and high frequencies.
The highs are fairly forward, adding liveliness to many recordings. The sound is very detailed due to the horn compression drivers.
These jbls are best when used when the listener is at somewhat of a distance from the speakers. They look like some aftermarket company speaker with all the plastic and everything showing but the sound they reproduce easily makes up for it.
Cons
The feet are so cheap i could see them flexing from the weight of the speaker, and was afraid to move them. Poor quality of mdf / vinyl / crossovers / speaker cones & caskets / binding posts / outposts etc. For 1200$ shipped this is not worth the ... Read More
Highlights
Quality
These might be the best speakers i have ever owned, great clarity in the highs and nice low range.
They are quite good - clear, powerful, good bass, extremely good dynamics and microdynamics, very clear (perhaps a bit bright) ... Read More
Dozens of hours of break in time (if such a thing is really necessary) did nothing to improve them.
They are too small, 100% plastic, and attached with two cheap wood screws directly into the mdf enclosure.
Price
At the current price of $470, they are still a great buy.
I still believe that for ~$400ea when on sale, these are an extremely good deal in speakers.
I bought these in 2013 at $500 each.
Took the plunge on the $450 deal after reading all the positive reviews on their incredible sound.
Shipping
I understand that these are difficult to come by, but i picked up mine last december from harman's ebay site for $477 each, new... Read More
$600 shipped with limited free return shipping.
They are so big they had to come via a freight service, so i wasn't sure what to expect and others had problems with their shipments.
Im glad jbl sent these speakers out with way too little of shipping protection.
Packaging/appearance
Movies were enveloping and the sound enhanced everything i watched.
Mine arrived with boxes perfectly intact and no damage.
The foam protection is a joke so don't be suprised if they arrive messed up.
The 570 floorstanders pack a much bigger punch, but without the boomy bass effects i was worried about.
Competitiveness
The only jbl tower better than these are their bigger brotherstudio 590which offers 8" woofers and of course cost a little more.
They are better than the kefq950 klipsch rf7 klipsch rp8000 and a few more i’ve owned.
"these were compared directly to revel f52's and kef r700's in the same setup.
The jbl's were nearly the equal of the (almost thrice as expensive) revel's in dynamic impact, and maybe slightly better than the kef's.
