Pros & Cons
Pros
Puts out an incredible amount of boom without overpowering the rest of your system. And perhaps most importantly, the auto on/off setting is great at sensing when it gets enough signal to turn itself on.
Jbl sub550p is a great complement to my ancient jbl lx44s, which are 36 years old and going strong with just one rebuild. The sub550 replaces a bluetooth klipsch sub which moved onto the porch.
Vintage speakers used for surround sound. Onkyo tx-nr626 receiver. Actually debating buying a second unit. Two bose virtually invisibles mounted in the ceiling at opposite ends of the room.
Cons
Jbl isn't what it used to be. Only the smell of smoked circuitry and disappointment.
The subwoofer runs hot in standby mode, so i keep it completely off and only used it roughly once per week and shut it down afterwards. After only over two weeks of usage, i immediately noticed a smell of wires burning after only 20 minutes of use it,... Read More
I am aware that jbl has received a lot of flak about this product. Is it for someone sueing them for spinal fracture while trying to lift and repackage a 50 pound paper weight of a subwoofer? Would strongly advised against purchasing and better off bu... Read More
Highlights
Quality
What a difference sound makes with a quality sub-woofer!
Best purchase i have made in a while.
The sub is solid at 400 watts and when set up properly can clearly preform above and beyond any application required of it.
The bass can overpower our setup even when we are completely cranked.
Price
Considering the price when on sale, you will probably discover a great product.
I recommend this item for its performance and good price.
First, this sub goes on sale all the time on the jbl site for $189.
Never pay here - go to jbl site and buy direct for $189.
Competitiveness
Sounds awesome and is far superior to the onkyo and sony subs i've previously owned.
This is all tied to a onkyo tx-nr626 receiver.
00 there are many better options ( svs 1000 comes to mind ) .
That is, there is a night and day difference between my sony sacs9 and this one.
