Quality
The quality is good and i would buy it again.
As i mentioned, i am very impressed with the vise.
If the vise had somehow been damaged in transit, i'd be upset with the carrier who delivered it, not with amazon and the manufacturer.
The instructions that came with the vice throw them away they are useless.
Price
The quick release mechanism works like a champ, vise has nice wide jaws, and the price was very reasonable.
The price was very fair i will definately recommend this purchase to freinds and family.
Shipping
Regardless, the vise is very heavy and solid and it was not damaged during shipping.
Some of the folks who rated this vise poorly did so based on perceived issues with the shipping and packaging.
The vise was in excellent condition, in spite of the shipping box.
It took the shipping and kept on ticking!
Packaging/appearance
Again great tool, poor packaging but they stood behind the product.
This time the packaging was in tact, but the same small point on the casting were damaged due to poor handling.
The vise was not damaged but the packaging was terrible.
Competitiveness
This is a great peice of equipment.
It's clamping great and made in usa.
I wish i had taken the advice to put a couple of o-rings on the wood dowel before i glued the caps on.

My bench would accept longer screws than came with the unit so i upgraded those even though it may not have been required

Throw away the stupid template they provide unless you want to drill mounting holes in the wrong place

Silicone would work also if they dont fit dont force them

Jaws should be parallel along long top edge and should touch at top first and squeeze parallel top to bottom maybe 116 gap at bottom when they first touch as you tighten thats how its designed to work

As for packaging mine was packeged well but one must realize its forty pounds of cast iron and amazon cant control how ups is going to handle the package so my box had the corner busted open and all the bolts were missing
