Problem for me then is that they sit in the connection just fine but extend further out which means i cant screw the top of the fitting back on

If at present you are still using gu10 halogen lamps either 35w or 50w replacing them with leds should save you money assuming the led replacements last as long as the makers claim

I have tried several budget ones in the past they either stop working go very dim or start flickering well before their claimed life

Switched off they dont look very nice with the 19 if i counted correct leds on the front
