This is the third year i've used these. I have a thousand gallon pond and was surprised that it actually heated it. Doesn't appear to affect the fish but still mildly frustrating/concerning. No fish but plenty of frogs and birds.
Cons
The first unit trips the electrical fuse every single time. Next morning it was froze solid into pond. My guess is a leaky seal possibly the one where the cord enters “the guts” or the apx. I just hope the liner wasn't too badly damaged.
Only lasted 1 month of service. Media could not be loaded. Do not use this product with an extension chord longer than 25!
Buyer beware of these k&h pond deicer models. Don't buy this piece of junk. Not a very good buy.

The first one corroded away so go in knowing that the metal that they chose was not built for more than 35 years judging by how long that last one lasted

I was initially worried that it might get too warm and knock the fish out of their dormant period
