Pros & Cons
Pros
I have to say my knife meets all of my expectations. The balance is superb and the blade was delivered as probably the sharpest i have ever received. This knife suits the needs for which i purchased it perfectly.
Sheath is excellent and fits perfect. My only complaint is that the sheath isn't more willing to relinquish the blade when i try to remove it.
Replica of horace kephart's famous camping knife. Only difference is that instead of rivets, it is bolted on with allen screws. The only change besides the steel, is the removable scales.
I expect it to perform superbly, but in the middle of a series of blizzards in wisconsin i have been too busy to do any bush crafting. The bear grylls has truck seat duty just in case, and the lmf has night stand duty should i ever get attacked by a s... Read More
Cons
In all honesty, this knife is * and doesn’t deserve to use the kephart name. The materials are there, but assembled without care. Though there wasn't oxidation issues in the carbon steel, still there were quality control issues at play and this knife ... Read More
Highlights
Quality
The sheath is a perfect fit and very well made.
This is a very well made knife.
All new knives need to be vigorously resharpened to get down to the good steel before putting the knife to use.
I spent over an hour getting the knife to the proper sharpness, it was apparent that the sharpening wheel used at the factory w... Read More
Price
As a replica of much-loved history, this knife is priced well.
This shouldn't be necessary on a knife that sells at $100 plus.
But a darn fine knife for the price.
As a survival tool you work with, it's vastly overpriced.
Shipping
Due on jan 29, arrived today, jan 19.
Packaging/appearance
I cant wait to start packing with it and letting years of use turn it into a thing of beauty that hopefully my sons will fight ... Read More
Beautiful, a real copy of the original kephart knife.
The box was less than exciting (in fact it was dented when i received it).
Came pretty sharp, after a good strop it was hair popping sharp.
Competitiveness
As other reviews have noted, this is as close to a working replica of the original horace kephart knife as you can find anywhere.
The becker bk62 comes as close to the original as i could find.
While it isn't to most expensive or cheapest version, it might be almost the most faithful rendition.
You can get a perfectly serviceable condor for a third the cost, or a similar old hickory for a sixth, or any number of knives ... Read More
