Despite what others stated here i simply selected the correct type in the kasa app homekit smart plug but then i opted to use bluetooth to setup

If you select smart plug litemini within the app you end up in some endless loop and cant get out of the app insisting on using homekit

I changed from the kp115 to the ep25 since the kp115 seems dated and harder to find now and some bad reviews and warnings online
