Pros & Cons
Pros
Only complaint is that the rod does not have alignment marks so getting all the eyelets aligned is a bit of a pain. Takes a bit to get set up but the portability overrides that issue. Only qualm is you need to place a loose piece of provided foam insi... Read More
Took this on a trip to the coast in texas. Caught a variety of fish with it including decent size cat fish tossing a 1 ounce weight. Still works, and yanks fish out of the water nicely. I caught 5 bass ranging from 1-3 lbs.
Rod looks outstanding with the valiant eagle baitcaster on it. Good combo with the kastking valiant golden eagle. Quality seems to be right on par with the excellent quality of their reels and one piece rods.
When fully extended, the rod feels sturdy with a good action. My 7'1 rod collapses down to 25, is very light and very well made.
Cons
Long-term durability is laughable. The tip of the rod is about as durable as some angel hair pasta. The hook holder is almost useless as it completely bent up with no effort and has snapped off. The cork on the end of the handle broke off after it fel... Read More
Top floating eye is permanently stuck to the very top eye. The casing around the eyelets at the top are too big unlike the bottom. The collapsible setup is just about the worst i've seen.
I have other telescopic rods, but they are lighter weight and didn't fit the need for bigger fish. My shimano spinning 2000 reel seat is too large for this 9 ft rod. It seems i have to take a file to my reel to use it which i will not do.
Highlights
Quality
Not with the kastking telescoping rod, it's a quality legit rod that packs down and has a cover to protect.
Much nicer quality than most brands, and not much more expensive.
I purchased this last minute for a 7 day trip to the boundary waters in minnesota and was blown away by the quality for the price.
We bought these rods for a fishing trip to brazil and we were very pleased with the performance (we got many peacock bass, but ... Read More
Competitiveness
I bought this for bass fishing from my kayak and set myself up with 20lb line and a fat, heavy topwater lure.
I matched it with a diawa fuego with 40lb braid.
I have quire a few kastking products including a krome salmon rod, speed demon spinning reel, and their pliers.
