Pros & Cons
Pros
Golite makes great packs for ultralight backpackers. This backpack is the behemoth beast of the kelty line of expedition packs.
The side compartments allow amble room for further gear. The bottom section has a separate zipper for loading in a sleeping bag. The main compartment is accessable from the top and from the front.
Used this pack on an 85 mile philmont trek through the sangre cristos mountains in cimarron, new mexico. Portaged/canoed with it for a total of 45 miles.
It is easy to adjust the torso length and the comfort level is exceptional. The hip belt is terrific and easy to secure and adjust. Bending the frame to fit is a bit of a chore but can be a rewarding custom fit.
Cons
This is the least rugged pack i've ever owned. The internal frame rests on their thinnest nylon, totally not reinforced.
Highlights
Quality
It seems to be constructed very well and is overall a high quality product.
The kelty quality is great - heavy duty zippers, creative pouching, rain cover integration, frame adjustments that really work,... Read More
It's osprey quality but you're not paying for the name.
I looked at osprey and other reputable manufacturers as quality was a huge driver for me.
Price
I was very sceptical about this pack when i bought it because of itd price.
Packaging/appearance
The red bag can easily be stuffed into the pack itself upon arrival (so the backpack can be worn) and it won't take up any mean... Read More
I didn't use the side pouches at all - i had a water bladder inside the pack.
(sleeping bag, clothes, food, cookware, hygiene, bladder, tent all on the inside of the pack.
Combined it with a coleman roll top dry bag 16" x 43" which inserted as a liner inside the pack perfectly.
Competitiveness
It's a keeper for me and i highly recommend this pack as a value that balances features and quality at a price less than many competitors.
A subperb backpack, you can't go wrong with it!
My previous pack was a 55l kelty which just didn't hold everything since i like to travel for a year at a time.
