It's not - its terrible. Its just some weirdness with this tire design or manufacture. Also the rubber is really cheap, will start cracking in a year or two.

These ride like slicks on the pavement but still hook up in the dirt.
Not recommending you go mountain biking with them, but might work on hardpack trails, did not seem to like sand and slipped out.
