Pros & Cons

Update Pros and Cons

Pros

The kensington dock is a marvel. It handles heat better than any comparable dock and the build quality is excellent. This is great as i use a 512gb micro sd for time machine backups & the normal sd card for vm and steam games.

The kensington dock is a great way to connect to a macbook pro. It has three usb-a ports and one usb-c port. The dock has a few issues, but overall it's a great value. The only downside is that the dock doesn't have as many ports as other docks.

Cons

The dock has two * ports but no hdmi, which is what my monitors have. Kensington refuses to acknowledge that such a problem exists.

Times zero is zero. This is a lot of money to lose on a product that might break quickly with no real recourse. As of this writing amazon does not offer that product.

An expensive paperweight. Could not keep up with my 2019 16 macbook pro. The mb pro apparently consumes 96w when going at full speed. I wish these manufacturers would pass closer attention to laptop power specs.

Both the usb-c and usb-a ports on the back charge normally, but somehow the dedicated charging point on the front is useless.

Price

For the price i attained this at, this was great.

Highly priced for this dock, but i honestly highly recommend.

Disappointing as the $30 significantly ate into the incentive of getting a refurb unit.

This is worth the money, the others are not.

Competitiveness

I initially didn't want to spend this much money and tried several different (cheaper) set ups but none of them worked.

I tried a few smaller cheaper hubs to get to this one, none of the others would drive a usb-c monitor from the hub, and one i t...  Read More

And the price is reasonable compared to some of the other options that do the same thing for double the price.

Most other tb4 docks with the same port layout go for at least 70 usd more.
