Pros & Cons
Pros
All-plastic k8 with white backlight has the following pros and totally ergonomic layout with traditional spacing among function key clusters, above the arrow cluster, and around the nav six-pack. Back lighting is a bit dim but not bad.

Competitiveness
Anything from razor, steelseries, and logitech completely fail compared to the keychron k8 at similar price points.
I cannot compare this to any other mechanical keyboard but it is far bette than any that i have had.
In summary, i can't compare very well to lesser known niche brands.
But keychron and by extension the k8 is the standard for what you should compare all other mech kbs to.
