We have this same alarm in the kitchen, and it goes off just about every time we bake or fry anything. Batteries were expired. Didn't detect smoke. Chucked it in the garbage.

The detector itself has a 10 year life before requiring replacement but the included alkaline battery requires annual replacement

Had a different smoke detector before that was designed for the kitchen but it went off almost every time i cooked anything vaguely smiley so i threw it out the window
