The quality is excellent for the price!
But if the smell does go away, she will be over the moon with the perfect little desk.
Many people complained about the quality of this desk, especially as regards the drawer, so i didn't have the highest hopes.
I agree with the other reviews that the desk is very solid and well-made.

It had a broken drawer that must have gotten jumbled during shipping.

This is perfect for an 7yr old.
Daughter loves itassembly - had to shave three pegs in order to get them into pre-drilled holes of the top cubby section.
There's plenty of room for her 12x16 drawing pad, as well.

Unsurprisingly when we opened the box which was not damaged in any way we found that the drawer front was not attached to the rest of the drawer
