It reminds me of the ding sound you hear in airplanes before the flight attendant speaks over the pa systems.
The new unit has no problems, so i am a happy camper now. It's a great toaster and i hope that other buyers will agree.
Cons
This is the first kitchenaid appliance that has disappointed me. Will ask kitchen aid to replace under warranty, but not optimistic.
Toasters are not a good online buy for that reason. The vendor always quality has a disconnected phone and refused (via email) to accept a return. Looking for another toaster and putting this one in garage sale pile.

I have also purchased several inexpensive toasters ranging from $30 to $45 but to no avail.
But for the the toast it produces, i have to say it is inexpensive.
A friend of mine owns the heavy and big kitchenaid toaster but it costs $500.

Most of our countertop appliances are kitchenaid, and we love this brand, but had to go for a different brand this time.
Replaced a similar other brand toaster that gave up on one side.

There are toaster and then there are toasters

All these and the ones i have already mentioned may toast fairly well on one side but the toast comes out toasted but with striping
