Pros & Cons
Pros
This is a larger version of the cuisinart 3-quart programmable slow cooker. It is a true slow cooker and doesn’t overheat like some of the crockpots. It turns out everything from a week's worth of steel cut oatmeal to pork tenderloin.
That means that my meat takes longer to cook, like sous vide, but is more tender, and maybe healthier. It does a good job of evenly heating the pot.
Cons
Kitchenaid continues to manufacture inferior products. Many reviews, mostly older, are stellar. Their winner is a loser!
This is the worst crockpot i have ever used. This product has a 350 watt heater that turns off when a high temperature setpoint is reached and turns on when the crock cools down to a low temperature set point. The crock is too small for the metal heat... Read More
The original design worked fine, but for whatever reason (availability, cheaper price? Perhaps the mailed transcript has some size limit that resulted in my actual value-added, non-automated chat with the rep being omitted from the emailed transcript.... Read More

It has large capacity and works exactly as expected, with the controls being precise and intuitive.
I wanted a timer and even heat crockpot.
I bought this a month ago and just realized the kitchenaid label is upside down.
Price
Costs more, but well worth it in no losses and no way-overcooked meals.
Competitiveness
I bought this because americas test kitchen rated it the best slow cooker on their test trial.
We've tried other slow cookers and pressure cookers with mixed results.
The low setting does not overcook around the edges like other brands i have used that just have low and high settings.
Even according to crock-pot, the only difference between high and low is how long it takes to reach the final heat setting.
