Pros & Cons
Pros
Kitchenaid ksmpb5 pastry beater is designed to make the perfect pastry dough. Dough paddle creates softer dough that has some crumble to it. Pastry blender works great for cookies and softer pastries.
Great product. Works as advertised. No more manually cutting. No problems getting it off the mixer. Much better than using my hands or a pastry cutter.
This beater has a rubbery coating and is dishwasher safe. The coating makes it easy to clean too.
Kitchenaid's ksmpb5 pastry beater is perfect for blending cold butter into flour for pastry doughs. freeze sticks of butter and then grate the frozen butter with a box cheese grater.
Though my ovation is a 5 qt, this beater fits my 7 qt. It fits and operates perfectly on the standard ka tilt-head mixer. Fits my six quart kitchenaid mixer.
Cons
The description indicates this is for kitchenaid bowl-lift stand mixers. This product is not compatible with model k5ss.
Highlights
Quality
The quality is great as i expected from the brand and it comes with a dough scraper which is a nice addition.
I was pleasantly surprised with the results from this beater!
At this fat cutting step, both beaters are messy and kick up a cloud of flour unless you have the clear cover with the flour chute.
After using the product for awhile i noticed that the paint is chipping, which is the same problem i had on the blade that it replaced.
Shipping
I originally bought this for pie crusts, but i used it to shred cooked chicken and it was so fast!
Packaging/appearance
I have included a photo (from the packaging of this specific beater) that shows the compatible mixers & a recipe.
The attachment that came with my mixer over 20 years ago started losing its whit coating.
Usually the coated parts are white and it's easy to tell them apart from the non-coated.
Competitiveness
I purchased this attachment for my new 5qt artisan kitchenaid stand mixer.
I can still use this for my bigger model.
