Pros & Cons
Pros
Use freshly roasted beans for the best results. Use 100% arabica beans espresso blend, medium roast. Lavazza makes good espresso with plenty of crema.
All the parts are solid and hefty. Packaging is top notch.
The kitchenaid is very nicely made with a brushed metal body and has a robust and dense build quality. The machine is modestly sized and easily fits under my cabinets on the countertop. The construction of this machine is so rugged and durable, it fee... Read More
Machine takes less than 45 seconds to preheat due to its fast-heating thermocoil technology. Machine is fast with its startup, heating and automatic milk frother attachment. The spout does double duty, steam or hot water.
Both pressurized and non-pressurized filter baskets are provided. An item or 2 is required and or replaced in addition to patience and technique in order to pull a shot of tasty expresso. Kitchenaid provides a complete package of high quality accessor... Read More
Cons
Everything about this machine feels cheap. The case is thin bent sheet metal. The espresso is still sour.
Vibration is so strong while pulling a shot that cups also need to be held in place on the very thin stainless grate (also vibrates) plastic water tank feels easy to break/crack. Machine is very loud--whole counter top vibrates when brewing.
It seeps to the edge of the portafilter eventually. Dripping after pulling a shot is excessive and messy and picks are overly soupy/wet. That’s why i took off 3stars.
Highlights
Quality
Great semi-automatic espresso machine, it has great features, very easy to operate and clean.
Quality, layered shots without too many calibration options2.
For someone who’s in a rush, i forget to turn off the machine before it’s 7 minute auto shut off, and my drip tray will overflo... Read More
Kitchenaid quality is second to none, and this machine doesn’t differ.
Price
Expensive cafe coffee is part of my past and i can’t wait to continue to explore all this machine has to offer.
I once had a delonghi completely automatic espresso machine that is priced at like $900 something and i love this espresso mach... Read More
Not a total dealbreaker to stick it in the microwave for 30 seconds.
The add-on is a waste of money.
Packaging/appearance
All i did was take it out of the box and follow simple instruction.
What’s in the box: espresso machine with water tank, stainless tamper, milk pitcher, portafilter(58mm), steam wand, 4 filter ba... Read More
Competitiveness
The portafilter is heavy and is flat which makes tampering good unlike other competitor brands.
The kitchenaid is better than the delonghi, ge profile, and cafe espresso machines i've owned previously.
I tried brevelle 300 dollar model, not as good as the 50 dollar krups.
One note: you can’t use an extra fine grind, but hey neither does starbucks.
