Pros

The kitchenaid has a spout for steam. The spout does double duty, steam or hot water. I like the removable steam wand for milk texturing.

The espresso machine has a built-in descaling program which encourages routine cleaning. After cleaning, the assembly easily snaps back into place. Just rinse all the removable parts before first use.

The starbuck's espresso machine is a must-have for any coffee lover. The quality of the coffee is as good or better than any coffee shop anywhere. Only complaint is water tray at bottom fills up fast, like every 3 lattes about.

Machine takes less than 45 seconds to preheat due to its fast-heating thermocoil technology. Quick to heat up and get ready, and also fairly quick to produce steam.

Cons

Machine is very loud--whole counter top vibrates when brewing. The brewing cups seem ill-designed for their use, especially relating to capacity. There is no crema on top of the basket.

The espresso is still sour and tastes overextracted. Everything about this machine feels cheap. The case is thin bent sheet metal.

Not a total dealbreaker to stick it in the microwave for 30 seconds.

The add-on is a waste of money.

Competitiveness

The portafilter is heavy and is flat which makes tampering good unlike other competitor brands.

The kitchenaid is better than the delonghi, ge profile, and cafe espresso machines i've owned previously.

I tried brevelle 300 dollar model, not as good as the 50 dollar krups.

One note: you can’t use an extra fine grind, but hey neither does starbucks.
