The slicer is a hinged plastic tool with a top part that moves up and down. It has a plastic bottom part with a curved holder to accommodate eggs/kiwis. It's not only useful for slicing eggs, but also for cheese, avocados, and other fruits.

Very well made and so easy to use.
I am a great fan of kitchenaid, from blender, food processor to simple kitchen utensils, it never disappoint me.
I had one that was supposed to be stainless steel but it started to peel.
The blades did a good job to do a smooth slicing on boiled egg.

Didnt want another one like that so i opted for plastic and a brand i knew
