Pros & Cons
Pros
It starts as a low and spurty whistle but crescendo into a strong and steady whistle that you can't miss.
The lid snaps into place snugly and has small vent holes under the handle. This reduces the flow of water from the spout to a trickle.
Another slight concern that cropped up for me is the ball bearing. It's not a deal-breaker, but it would have made this a 5-star item. Not a big deal, but mildly annoying.
The kitchenaid kettle reminds me of the all-clad kettle with the metal handle. This beautiful teapot fits in wonderfully in our mid century kitchen.
Kitchenaid's tea kettle is a delight to behold and hold. This is the “airstream’ of kettle and that is why i had to the kettle looks at home in my airstream basecamp travel trailer. The kettle stays on top of our kitchenaid stovetop, which it visually... Read More
Cons
The whistle mechanism is in the lid, but in order to create enough back pressure to activate the whistle, the spout must be blocked.
Highlights
Quality
The kettle heats quickly, whether on the gas burner or our induction cooktop; it pours nicely with great balance, and cleans easily.
This kettle is well-made and the body is thick gauge brushed stainless steel.
It is all stainless steel- no rubber gaskets or plastic that will fail after a few years.
After a few weeks of daily use, it now seems to stick when pouring, and no amount of jostling can get it loose.
Price
I believe this was worth every penny.
Overall, i ended up knocking off one star due to the price.
My main cons on this kettle are the price and the dishwasher safe advertising.
I have a few kettles including a hario for pour-over coffee which cost about $50.
Packaging/appearance
Can't say i understand why, but it gives it a sleek look.
Competitiveness
The kitchenaid kettle reminds me of the all-clad kettle with the metal handle and about the same price.
Pricewise, this is great though and compares well to other kettles such as revere.
