Pros

This is a sacrificial gear, that shears off teeth to protect the motor when you stress the machine with a really stiff dough. Works great, mixer is now like new.

Full spec replacement part, at a reasonable price. There are a lot of options online, but the oem seems to be the best option and it doesn't cost a ton more than the knockoffs. Because of that, it makes sense to go with the oem since it's spec'd for t...  Read More

Cons

The whole kitchenaid gear assembly has been cheapened over the years. There was no statement of refurbishing on the website of this product.

Quality

It was easy to install and works great!

This part was a solid oem replacement part for my kitchenaid mixer.

The only part that revolves at this speed is the main worm gear shaft part 18.

I slid a 6" section of 5/8" id pipe downward over the shaft to tap the new gear down over the shaft.

Price

I could have spent another $7 and 10 days ordering the washer, but i went to my local hardware store instead.

Perfect fits just as it should my mixer now worksput this in a mixer i paid $15 for at a thrift shop now i have a $200 + mixer for far less

I had to run to the hardware store mid-repair to get a pair and it would have been much cheaper to get it online.

Shipping

The product arrived fast and worked exactly as intended.

I had my wife's mixer back up and running the day it arrived.

Competitiveness

There are a lot of options online, but the oem seems to me to be the best option and it doesn't cost a ton more than the knockoffs.

I understand special pliers are advised for the washer and id agree i took several hours with standard pliers after a fair amount of bending

It appears from a parts diagram list that this worm follower gear should be made from brass not steel

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Perhaps so that it becomes the 34sacrificial gear34 if something gets jammed in the mixer blade

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

I wish kitchenaid had just designed it with a shear pin instead since destroying this gear seems to be a very common problem and is a messy timeconsuming job to replace

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

This may be the only worm gear sold on amazon actually made from brass

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

It looks like brass though a magnet is attracted to it but this magnetic attraction might be due to this gear having an inner steel sleeve

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Note that removing the old gear requires tapping the shaft downward with a rubber mallet or a cushioned hammer to slide it off the old gear since it is a very tight fit

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Likewise the new gear has to be forced downward over the shaft since it has a similar tight fit
