Pros & Cons
Pros
The window kit is very easy to install. The caster wheels make it very convenient. I have carpet so the filters do need to be cleaned every few days.
It cools the 2nd floor tremendously well while leaving the 3rd floor about 10 degrees hotter. We have it sitting in a 24 plastic round water heater drain pan to prevent any spills. It’s in the loft of the home next to 20’ ceilings.
There is always a breeze and it is rarely ever humid here.
It cools the room (large) down in no time. There is even an option to turn off the led display at night so you don’t have to worry about it lighting up the room. The rest of the house cools nicely, not tundra cold, but that's not what i need.
Cons
This unit is not designed to be used in the self evaporation mode. This koldfront unit requires emptying every 1-2 hours?
I have apr $1000 worth of useless equipment that keeps my light bill about $350/month. Would not recommend.
Highlights
Quality
Appreciate design improvements of portable acs over the years (easiest setup yet), has handles to move it around easier.
I like it is not noisy and cold eficiently , and very easy to install
The heat from the exposed part of exhaust will be counter productive to cooling your intended space.
It seemed like such an inefficient use of energy to crank the central air system just to get comfortable temperatures on the 3rd floor.
Price
We had an old unit last summer & just using it in our master bedroom our electric bill went down almost $100.
Can be a bit noisy, but if i’m cool, small price to pay!
Shipping
I emailed amazon who then got in touch with the company who fulfilled the order and to my surprise, the parts arrived the very next day!
I recieved this unit on a friday and i let it set for 24hrs since who knows how it was handled during shipping and installed it... Read More
Packaging/appearance
I used clear packing tape to connect the two and it looks and works just fine to keep the hot air out.
It arrived missing 2 parts rendering it useless (hose connection).
The one thing i should mention is the packing it came in.
Boxes were a mess but no damage to the product
Competitiveness
We ordered one of these portable a/c along with a smaller one made by a different company and there was no comparison, not even close.
We compared with the black & decker but went with this.
This one by koldfront is slightly different in that it’s a different manufacturer, more powerful at 14k btu’s, and it does not ... Read More
