A normal carabiner wont help if the force is too much to allow you to pull slack

I suspected accumulated crud so i cleaned it thoroughly but there was no improvement

This took perhaps 1 minute and i was ever mindful to avoid even the slightest bit of material removal lest the shackle support less weight than its rated amount
