I have to agree that it is pretty low contrast and if the room lights are dim it can be hard to read the clock

I mounted it on a wall near the phone and there is no electrical outlet nearby so it is running on batteries and we cant use the backlight function

The backlight can be activated temporarily using the snooze button the button is on top of the clock and hard to find when the clock is on the wall

When i tried to show mom how to do it she pushed the alarm button instead and was worried she screwed it up

It picked up the right time minutes after i plugged it in

It has three brightness setting the default is full bright the next is half dim and the final one is no light at all

The reason i gave it a five star is because the seller did not advertise it as bedside alarm clock
