I really like this thing i have been using it with my ipad and my microsoft surface and it works just as described the board inserts help block light out but its not needed to hold the tablet if your using the ipad mini or something smaller in size then yes i guess you would need it i like that this set up is real simple the metal is heavy duty and polycarbonate top is pretty thick i feel its built to last i will be updating this review with some photos and a video soon let me know if this review helped by clicking below  Read Less
