Apparently the fixture is wired so that solar panel will also recharge the aa batteries

When gets dark enough and motion is detected by a sensor located at the front of the unit the light comes on and stays on until activity is no longer detected or the battery runs out

The lithium battery is detachable however the wire connector that remains in the battery compartment gets in the way when you attempt to insert aa batteries

While i did verify that the light operates with aa batteries i did not leave the batteries in the fixture to verify that they were charged by the solar cell

Really bright light covers a pretty large area
