I did not count the actual number of pieces, but its a pretty decent sized set and appears to line up with the advertised piece count.
Reminded me of john carpenter's the thing and it was so much fun creating our own spooky story with the characters and the set.

Packaging great - instructions great, took adult several hours to assemble & a 6yr old 3 mins to destroy it

The one odd thing about this set is for the lego guys to go inside the main part of the outpost you have to open the entire side
