Remote control becomes helpful if you are in proximity for around 2 feet it is not working if we go beyond three feets

I have checked the unit against a professionally calibrated humidity sensor and it reads spot on i have found consumer grade humidity meters can be very much hit or miss you may get a good one you may not so dont assume the unit meter is in error

The problem comes with room air circulation no matter how you positon the unit or direct the mist jet it is inevitable that some humid air will short circuit back the the intake
