Pros

The only drawback about this machine is that it is not user friendly. While we've never owned a recorder with a more disjointed, hard to follow manual the performance of the equipment makes up for it.

Cons

The unit i received has a dent and scuffs on the top, which i wouldn’t have expected for the price. What frustrates me is it has a limited warranty on a product notorious for breaking. Be forwarned of the build in obsolescence of lg products.

The rc897t costs $280 and only lasts 2 years. Estimated repair cost is over $400, so it will be recycled. Not a very good value for the money. Is a lot of buck.

The remote is cumbersome. The tuners lg use are shoddy. Lg does nothing to stand behind this product.

The playback is always on the 4 x 3 box ratio, not the 16 x 3. The player sometimes stops for no reason even on a brand new disc. The ir is also poor - you need to point the remote directly at the unit to make it function.

The price was a lot more than what i paid for a combo in 2009, but i was so relieved i found this i paid the price and i am moving on.

Price was great, but had to return it to kmart.

Competitiveness

I gave my first dvd record a title name(so easy);it can separate recordings on dvd into 3-4 section and name them.

It is compact and more versitle than other player/recorders in thatit accepts two different formats.

I thought it would simplify my life to have 2 machines exactly the same so it would be a no-brainer to run between the two of them.
