Pros & Cons
Pros
Detial, bass, treble extension, and especially sound stage/imaging is one of the best if not the best i've ever experienced in any iem. Sound leakage is not noticeable unless you stick the back of the iem right up to your ear. The staging and imaging ... Read More
As with many harman-ish iems, vocal delivery takes center stage. The hook-x has very good midrange timbre and comes across just a smidge on the dry side. The mid-bass contour is a compromise that sacrifices asmidge of midrange clarity.
The level of treble on this set is perfect for long listening, as everything sounds sweet without hurting you. When you just want to chill and relax but still be able to jam out, these are a great option.
Cons
I’m sure the headphones are good but overall had a bad first experience. Don’t know this company. But beware the good reviews on this one.
Highlights
Quality
The fabric is black with a metallic green accent, in keeping with the overall aesthetic.
All in all, though, the sound quality of quite good.
Further, qc issues with the cable are evidently not uncommon.
5mm adapters are only held in place in the cable with the least bit of friction.
Price
Really phenomenal accessories especially considering the price.
Everything about the sounds is way above the asking price.
Shipping
The bass is rumbling and deep but also fast when it needs to be.
Packaging/appearance
The entire packaging felt very premium and the carrying case it comes with is the perfect size.
The packaging is stylish and the unboxing experience is appropriate for a product of this price point.
That said, when i tried eqing the treble on this set, i was able to squeeze a good amount of extra detail out of the hook.
Competitiveness
I used a fiio btr7 and btr5 for testing and it sounds wonderful with those.
The best iem i’ve heard and i own the dynamic cardas a8 ($350.
The foremost exception is the user’s own voice, for which isolation is noticeably worse than other sounds, even compared to other iems.
No need to switch to my default dekoni tips.

Summarythe raptgo hookx is a very goodsounding iem but if your sole usecase for an iem is listening to music the hookx is not the best value for your dollar

I suspect that the inclusion of a modular cable is responsible for a large part of the higher sticker price relative to contemporary planarmagnetic iems

The rear of the slipcover features an exploded diagram of the hookx along with raptgo’s corporate contact information

The eartips appear identical other than having different colored bores

Including three sets of the same type of eartips is excessive and i would have preferred a set of foam tips if not just a differently shaped set of silicone eartips

The rim of the faceplate contains metallic green accents a detail which is also found on the detachable 2pin cable in several spots

The 2pin connector base is slightly raised from the surface of the shell
