Originally i was unable to get a good physical magnetic connection with my magsafe phone case and this car mount directly but when i attached the metal ring that this car mount provides to the back of the magsafe case the magnetic physical connection was about twice as strong

Because the phone is being held by a magnetic field the phone can be rotated to get a portrait or landscape orientation while driving

When i installed the unit i felt that it was a tight fit so the vent fins expanded a bit and then contracted

I think that the magsafe case that i have is probably geared more toward charging the iphone rather than providing a strong magnetic field for holding the case effectively
