Pros & Cons
Pros
This is my first carbon skillet (i don't even own cast iron) it's like a heavy cross between a cast iron skillet and a regular steel frying pan. Compared with the higher priced imported carbon steel pans, this pan is a better value. If you're not a go... Read More
This frying pan is my go to in the kitchen. I love the long handle and its design, makes it easy to flip food. The longer length of the handle makes it awkward to store, but for me, the majority of time it sits on my stove.
It rests on the stove, eagerly waiting for the next cooking. Sear and fast hot heat with the carbon steel.
Cons
The reply seems like a superficial show of interest designed to blunt the effect of my critical review. Kind of disappointed with the * quality and having to waste time going to kohl's to return this one. Really sad for a company like lodge.
The pan is sand blasted not polished. This makes no sense, the whole point of a steel pan is the smooth polished surface like the top of a restaurant grille. The factory nonstick coating is useless.
The seasoning of the pan is very rough and did not preform well. Carbon steel is supposed to be tough and be able to use on campfires. I love lodge cast iron pans and dutch ovens, but this steel pan is a loser.
Highlights
Quality
Easy to maintain and the pan should last a lifetime.
This is my go to pan (i have six different cast iron/carbon steel pans), heavy use, daily, and it has held up exceptionally well.
Once it was used and washed and oiled a couple of times pan became part of our regular tools.
No toxic "non-stick" surface of wonder-chemicals that turn out to be cancer-causing decades later.
Price
This gave me a pan that eggs slide around in for way less money.
Overall at this price point its a good light versatile option to high end carbon steel pans.
Alton brown likes a hand forged brand that cost $200.
Packaging/appearance
Not sure what those other folks were doing, i took this pan out of the box, put it on the stove, when it was heated i put a tin... Read More
Competitiveness
Compared with the higher priced imported carbon steel pans, this pan is a better value.
This pan is thinner than the french counterparts therefore it heats and cools more quickly .
It's light weight compared to other carbon steel pans.
