You plug your remote into your computer with a usb cable go to the website and select the make and model of your electronic component

The advantage that this remote has over normal universal remotes is that the normal universal remotes only operate the common functions on your component

This unit will not charge off of your computer you need to use a usb charger because the remote assumes programming mode when it senses that it is connected to a computer

Also i have one usb charger that the remote does not recognize it gave me an error message that it could not charge the batteries but the batteries were no defective but i plugged it into a different charger and it charged up just fine
